“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple,” Psalm 19:7.

David turns his attention to the inspired Word of God, which is but an amplification, an augmenting of what the heavens declare.

There are three editions of God’s revelation to mankind:

1. THE CREATION. 2. THE BIBLE. 3. THE FUTURE FACE TO FACE VIEWING OF CHRIST. “For now we see through a glass, darkly (because of our failings); but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known,” 1 Cors 13:12. See also Isaiah 33:16; 1 John 3:2; Rev 22:3-4.

1. David declares the perfection of God’s Word as it has been given us by the Holy Spirit. “The law of the LORD is perfect.” It is brighter, clearer, without blemish than that written in the heavens! “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost,” 2 Peter 1:21.“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works,” 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

2. Note the power of God’s Word. “Converting the soul”. The word ‘converting’ carries the meaning to ‘turn back’, recover’, ‘restore’. Spiritual conversion is the Lord bringing the sinner back from sin and rebellion into which mankind fell through Adam’s transgression. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new,” 2 Cors 5:17.

3. Note the profit from the Word. “The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” The word ‘sure’ carries a wide breadth of meaning. ‘Father’, Nurse’. It refers to God’s care of His people. “And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse (same word) unto it,” Ruth 4:16.

The Lord mercifully ‘feeds’ wisdom to the most foolish. “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence,” 1 Cors 1:26-29.
