“He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved,” verse 5.

Our study today emphasises how that every aspect of our lives should be under God’s rule.

1. How we use our money is important to the Lord.

This is because He gave it to us and we are obligated to return an offering of it  to Him!

“Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come,” 1 Corinthians 16:2. No better day or place to remember those in need than in the place where we have received so much from the Lord as we have worshipped Him..

How few are aware of this and give thanks to the Lord for His kindness. “Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him,” Gen 26:12.

2. We must not use it to the hurt of others.

“If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury,” Exodus 22:25. Leviticus 25:35-42. Nehemiah 5:7-13.

‘Usury’ is lend to those that need but require a profit when it is repaid. We have it defined in Proverbs 28:8 as “unjust gain”.

Today, we have those called ‘loansharks’. They cruelly exploit those in need of financial help.

3. Those who abide by these laws shall be blessed of God and welcomed in His House.

The word used of the blessing is ‘moved’! It means a lot. Not ‘totter’, ‘fall’, ‘slip’, ‘overthrown’. To be given such a glorious promise by the Lord shows how important it is to live to please Him. It is to our benefit to do so. We shall be kept. “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways,” Psalm 91:11.

Oh how obedience to God is a wise path to tread, Ex 23:20-33.
