An essential question, Pt 2KICS Studies - Some of my Favorite Psalms · part 19 of 69Rev. Ivan Foster · YouthPsalm 15:1 · Tue Mar 22, 2022

LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?”

1. When addressing the Saviour we must address Him correctly. David uses the title ‘Jehovah’. It is the highest of all God’s names. David saw the Saviour to be the ‘High and Holy One’ and addressed Him so. Boys and girls, we must ever show the highest reverence and regard for the Lord!

2. The question asked here is one that man has no answer to! Just how a man may be in a right and lasting relationship with the ‘High and Holy One’ is something man cannot know of himself.

A right understanding of Who the Lord is and a right understanding of our own corruption will make such a question seem to have no possible answer!

3. It ought to be our desire to know the how we may ‘abide’, ‘dwell’ in God’s tabernacle. Our relationship with the Lord ought to be on a ‘permanent’ basis. There is no going back. “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God,” Luke 9:62. We are to follow Him if we are to know His dwelling lie, John 1:36-39.

The tabernacle was the place where the Lord was ever to be found when Israel walked with the Lord. “Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established,” Exodus 15:17. “For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it,” Psalm 132:13-14.

Note that the Lord will ‘rest for ever’ in Zion. That explains why the Lord returns to Mount Olivet and Zion, Isaiah 2:3.

What a glorious privilege is offered to us -  we may know abiding fellowship with God.

We sing a hymn, “When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way; while we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”  That is what we may enjoy.
