The Birth of Christ ... When? Pt 2Rev. Ivan Foster1 Timothy 1:15 · YouthThu Dec 23, 2021

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief,”  1 Timothy 1:15.

THE BIBLE DOES GIVE US INFORMATION THAT ENABLES US TO SEE WHAT TIME OF THE YEAR CHRIST BORN.

1.The Bible tells us when John the Baptist was born. Luke 1:36. See Luke 1:5, for the time sequence. The little phrase, ‘of the course of Abia’, is very informative. The family of Abijah, or Abia, was the eighth in order of the weekly duties allocated to the Levitical priests by David, 1 Chron 24:1-19. (note verse 10).

Zacharias, of the house of Abijah, would have served in the eighth course. That means that eight weeks from beginning of the Jewish year Zacharias would have been on duty within the temple when he angel announced to him the forthcoming birth of a son to his wife Elisabeth. He finished his temple duties in June and John the Baptist would have been born about February or March the next year.

2. Again, we do know that the Saviour was born six months later. Luke 1:36 tells us that The Saviour was born 6 months later. Christ would have been born about September of the same year. This would fit with the shepherds being in the fields, the weather would still be warm.

3. What we believe regarding the date of the Saviour’s birth will not have any bearing upon our soul’s salvation. But we may not be careless about matters related to Christ. What is vital is WHY Christ was born. “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” This glorious statement, of a truth that lies at the very heart of the gospel, tells us a number of important things.

I. ALL MEN ARE SINNERS.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23.

II. ALL MEN THEREFORE NEED SALVATION.

Each one of us has a sinful heart. 1 Kings 8:46.

III. CHRIST HAS COME TO SAVE SINNERS.

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners . .”

IV. THE MESSAGE OF CHRIST IS TO BE RECEIVED BY FAITH.

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation.” We This is a trustworthy statement that may and should be believed and received by all, for thereby they will be saved. Have you received Christ???

He is the gift of eternal life, for this reason the Saviour came into this world so long ago?
