Quiet in the land targeted by devisers of deceitThe Voice of Kilskeery from the 1980s · part 18 of 18Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMPsalm 35:20 · Sun Nov 16, 1986

"For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land," Psalm 35:20.

Preached in Kilskeery FPC on Lord's Day evening, 16th November 1986, by Rev Ivan Foster.

God is an onlooker in the affairs of men.

David however prays that God would not just look on but intervene directly. One of the reasons why David felt God should intervene was the deceitful devisings of his enemies - " . . . they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land."

When we read this verse recently in our Lord's Day morning prayer meeting I pointed out how aptly it explained what was happening in Ulster at the present time.

The Anglo Irish Agreement is all about wicked devices against the 'quiet'. Consider just what this verse says and we shall see that the AIA is but the latest in a long line of devisings against the 'the quiet in the land.'

(Sadly, the recording tape runs out and a few closing statements of the sermon are missed.)
