The Lord Jesus, more gloriously, was "Joseph" the firstborn of many offspring. "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren," Romans 8:29. The Lord Jesus was the firstborn of innumerable offspring. "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand," Isaiah 53:10. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit," John 12:24. Christ is the Head of the Church. The Church is utterly dependent upon Him for everything. "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body," Ephesians 5:23-24. Many parts of the body are non-essential but not the head. You can live without a leg, a lung, an eye, an ear, or an arm, but you cannot live without a head!!
