The importance of the prayer meeting No1 - Our best Friend will be there Matthew 18:20. (Preached in Tavistock FPC) The chief purpose of the house of God was prayer. This the Saviour asserted in no uncertain terms. "And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves," Matthew 21:12-13. Prayer was the priority for the apostolic church. "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers," Acts 2:41-42. Such was their power and influence in prayer that they as a tiny minority exercised a powerful influence. Such could still be the case for God's people.
