Worthless man wonderfully favouredMarvel of God's graceRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMPsalm 144:3 · Sun Jan 14, 2007
"LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!" Psalm 144:3. There is a repetition in this verse for the matter touched upon is most wonderful to the psalmist. David has been considering the gracious goodness of the Lord toward him. In verse 2 there is a seven-fold goodness detailed by David. He credits the Lord alone as the author of all the benefits that he enjoys. "Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away," he says in verse 4. It is because he is conscious of his own nothingness that he sees God's goodness toward him as all the more wonderful.
