Solace for a Small Flock, Pt 2Rev. Ivan FosterLuke 12:32 · Prayer MeetingTue Nov 29, 2016
SAVIOUR'S SOLACE FOR A SMALL FLOCK "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom," Luke 12:32. (Tavistock FPC Prayer meeting, 29th November, 2016) The Saviour is often depicted as a Shepherd. What is most marvellous to consider is that He chooses to shepherd such a small flock. To have a small flock is something men mocked. "And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle," 1 Sam 17:28. A large flock is a sign of earthly grandeur. Job 1:1-3. Yet our Saviour's flock is small. The smallness of the flock of God engenders fear but the Saviour says we are not to fear. The cure for our fear is faith in the promise of the Saviour. " . . . it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." I want us to consider what it means to be given the kingdom and when that will take place.
