Since the beginning of the new school year in September 2015, Rev Foster has been asked to speak at two morning assembly meetings each week. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." Fifth Picture of Christ Genesis 22:1-14 Approximately 500 years have passed since the flood. God has called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees, Gen 12:1. Ur of the Chaldees was in the land of Babylon or modern day Iraq. Like Isaac, the Lord Jesus at no time tried to avoid the death willed by His Father, Genesis 22:7, 9. The thought never entered the mind of our Saviour. It is blasphemous to suggest that it did. When it first became known to Isaac that he was the sacrifice we do not know for certain. But, the Lord Jesus knew He was the sacrifice from all eternity. He was the "Lamb slain from the foundation of the world," Revelation 13:8. The Saviour's prayer in Gethsemane: "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt," Matthew 26:39, is foolishly understood by some to indicate a reluctance on the part of the Saviour to die on the cross. The Lord Jesus was the "Lamb slain from the foundation of the world," Revelation 13:8. He eternally submitted to His own death as the substitute for His people as ordained by His Father. In Gethsemane He was not asking His Father to allow Him to avoid Calvary but rather He was responding to an attack of the devil who tried to kill the Saviour in the Gethsemane and thus stop Him going to the cross. His prayer in the garden was heard and answer, Hebrews 5:7. Christ was saved from death in Gethsemane and went on to die as the Lamb of God at the cross.
