Revival & the Second Advent - 1Andecent of the AdventRev. Ivan Foster · Wed Nov 18, 20091 Samuel 17:17-18 · Special Meeting
(Preached in Rhiwderin FP Hall, Wales) Before David went forth to defeat Goliath, he was his father's messenger to his brethren. I believe the Lord Jesus will move in mercy amongst His brethren just before He will slay the Antichrist. Just prior to the Saviour's first advent, there were those in Jerusalem who expected his coming. Luke 2:38, speaks of a people "that looked for redemption in Jerusalem." Simeon is termed as a man "waiting for the consolation of Israel," Luke 2:25. These words indicate a heightened expectation that Christ would soon come. They were told of the time of His coming by the prophet Daniel. "Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks," Daniel 9:25. The commandment was issued in the days of Nehemiah and the 69 "weeks" (periods of 7), or 483 years, would end about 30 years after the birth of Christ, the time of His crucifixion or His "cutting off" as Daniel 9:26 states. Those informed by prophecy knew that Christ would die as a sacrifice in His prime, or about 30 years of age, the age the priests began their service in the tabernacle and temple, Num 4:23, 1 Chron 23:3, Luke 3:23. This was the age of Joseph when he came to power in Egypt, Gen 41:46 and David when he took the throne of Israel, 2 Sam 5:4. Both are wonderful types of the Lord Jesus. Those scenes provide us with a foreshadowing of a like awareness of the approach of Christ's second advent amongst those who study His Word, Matt 24:33; Mark 13:14, 29; Luke 21:28.
