SOARING UPWARD OUT OF DESPAIR, Pt 3 Isaiah 40:31. (Prayer talk in Lewes FPC. First preached in Kilskeery FPC 25th Oct '99) So far in our study we have noted:-- The name given to believers -- "They that wait upon the LORD". The strength believers possess. The constant renewing of that strength that must take place. Now we come to:-- The evidence of strength renewed "They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." There are three "shalls' in this verse. They indicate the consequences of truly waiting upon the Lord. The indicate the certainty of these results following on from waiting upon the Lord. The first of these will be our study this evening. MOUNTING UP ON WINGS AS EAGLES Such an expression denotes the conquest of that fleshly, carnal nature that keeps us an earth-bound prisoner. It indicates the victory whereby we are able to soar into the heavenly places and dwell there. Christ, in John 12:42, said : "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." That drawing power is experienced by believers who wait upon the Lord. They are drawn upward to Christ. It is a drawing we first experienced at conversion. It continues through our fellowship and communion with Him. It will continue at death and at the resurrection. Upward is the direction Christ would draw us.
