Disorderly Women Pt 2Studies in First Corinthians · part 39 of 51Rev. Ivan Foster · Sun Apr 7, 19961 Corinthians 14:26-40 · Sunday - AM

3. There was a problem in Corinth with woman abandoning the role God had ordained for them.

This was dealt with in 11:1-16. I believe that this was a problem of  the same nature. In this context I believe that it was disorderly interruptions by women demanding answers that Paul is referring to. This was a case of women casting aside the subordinate role that God had ordained for them. Coming as it does in the wake of verse 33 with it's references to confusion, some women were creating confusion by disruptive questioning of the preacher.  They were thus instructed to hold their peace and wait until they were home before questioning so, verse 35.

III. CONCLUDING REMARKS

The verses 36-40 contain the general application that Paul would wish to make from his previous remarks.

1. Corinth needed to be reminded that it was not the founding church but one of those that had received the gospel from others. Verse 36.

2. A humble submission to the Word of God is the mark of a truly spiritual person. Verse 37.

3. Wilful ignorance leads to abandonment. Verse 38.

4. Prophesy is again elevated above tongues. Verse 39.

5. Order and decency are paramount in the church. Verse 40.
