Waiting on the Lord Pt 2Strength renewedRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMIsaiah 40:31 · Sun Nov 14, 2010
SOARING UPWARD OUT OF DESPAIR, Pt 2 Isaiah 40:31. (Preached in Lewes FPC. First preached in Kilskeery FPC As we commented last week, God's people are prone to despondency. God in mercy ministers to our needs. But despondency is a sin. When we are despondent we form a very wrong view of God and forget our own true character. Hence the rebukes and assertions contained in verses 27-31. We saw last week that God's people bear a unique and informative title. They are "those that wait upon the Lord". We continue our study of the verse 31 with the topic . . . AN INSTRUCTIVE TRUTH REGARDING GOD'S PEOPLE. We wish to consider what it is we obtain from waiting and why it is therefore that we wait -- WE ARE STRENGTHENED. We become despondent and defeated because our strength to combat sin and Satan and the world diminishes. It is not a failing on God's part or want of power with Him. Faith in Him on our part is lacking. Peter walking on the water in Matt 14:30-31. It was not the power of the wind or waves that overcame him but the decline of Peter's faith that failed him. "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" Matthew 14:31.
