Ruth's supplication and discretionTruth for Today - Studies in Ruth · part 28 of 36Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMRuth 3:1-10 · Sun Jan 1, 2006

Ruth has been told of her rights under the law of God whereby the next of kin of her late husband marry her and look after her interests.

Ruth came to Bethlehem at the time of the Passover. This incident before us takes place at the time of Pentecost. The parallel is obvious. She pictures for us the sinner who has come to faith in Christ (2:12) who is now seeking the fulness of God's provision for her.

There is instruction here for those that look for the enjoyment of the life abundant that Christ has promised to His people (John 10:10).

We take up our study where we left off last week.

II. RUTH'S OBEDIENCE.

2. She acted without presumption. She lay at his feet not at his side. She did not come as an equal demanding but as a servant supplicating.

3. She asked most discreetly. I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman," verse 9. She asked to be taken under his protection and care. Ezekiel 16:6-14.
