The Return of the Lord Jesus, Specific events in the city of Jerusalem. In our last study we considered what is taught us in Daniel 9:24-27. We noted the statement by the Lord that "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy," verse 24. Genesis 29:26-27 shows us that the word "hebtad", translated "week" in our Bible, does not refer to 7 days but 7 years. Thus 69 of those weeks or 483 years cover the period from the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem until the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus, (verse 26). That leaves one more "heptad" to come and it will cover the time of Antichrist's reign in Jereusalem, his erecting the "the abomination of desolation" in the temple, the great tribulation of 3 1/2 years which will end with the Saviour's intervention to deliver His ancient people, Zechariah 14:1-4.
