Wives' submission pt 1Unsearchable riches of Christ in Ephesians · part 74 of 112Rev. Ivan Foster · Sun Oct 5, 2003Ephesians 5:21-33,6:1-9 · Sunday - AM

A direct consequence of the infilling of the Holy Ghost is the believer's submissiveness to other believers. The word "submitting" is a military term that refers to the submissiveness of the soldier to his commanders. What is being called for here is a humility of mind and heart whereby, out of the fear of God, Christians cheerfully serve one another. (Php 2:3; 1 Peter 5:5). This is the order God would have amongst us. Paul applies this command to the marriage relationship first of all. He will go on to the wider family and employee/employer relationships later, 6:5-9. We will consider Paul's word to wives. "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord."
