The 11th picture of Christ Gideon and his likeness to Christ. We can find glimpses of the person, work, purpose and victory our Saviour in the lives of many of those believers we encounter in the Bible. Gideon is just one such person. We are going to consider the climax of Gideon's life - his battle with the Midianites. Please read Judges 8:28. The victory was a wonderful foreshadowing of the triumph of Christ over His enemies - Part 3. This victory over the Midianites is referred to in Isa 10:26 when God predicts the overthrow of the Assyrian, who is a type of the future Antichrist. Note the journey that Sennacherib was to take and, in the future, Antichrist as he moved his armies from Armageddon (Rev 16:14-16) to Jerusalem, Isa 10:28-33. So the victory given to Gideon foreshadowed the final glorious victory of Christ over His enemies. The blessed result of the victory in Israel was peace. 'Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon,' Judges 8:28. So it will be in the Day of the Lord. Zechariah 14:1-4, Rev 11:15, 19:19-20:4; Isa 2:4. So, we have in the life of Gideon pictures of the Saviour.
