The Day of the LordStudies in Malachi · part 25 of 25Rev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMMalachi 4:1-6 · Sun Oct 12, 2008
This is our final study in this book. The last book of the Old Testament ends, not with a direct reference to the first coming of Christ but to His second coming. Many commentators have seen in the words of chapter 4 that which was fulfilled at the first advent of Christ and in His fore-runner, John the Baptist. Such an interpretation of these verses does not agree with what we read elsewhere in God's Word. The words of Malachi from 3:16 to 4:6 should be read as one portion. They refer to the the one time and topic. The words : " For, behold, the day cometh" (4:1) form an explanation of the what was stated in 3:16-18. The time of the events referred to will be just before the "Day of the Lord", which begins with the return of Christ to this earth. I wish to note three things about that Day.
