Wives' submission pt 2Unsearchable riches of Christ in Ephesians · part 75 of 112Rev. Ivan Foster · Sun Oct 12, 2003Ephesians 5:21-24 · Sunday - AM

A direct consequence of the infilling of the Holy Ghost is the believer's submissiveness to other believers. The word "submitting" is a military term that refers to the submissiveness of the soldier to his commanders. Please note that Paul addresses wives first of all. I have no doubt that among the many matters that needed attention within the structure of a pagan society, this ranked as number one. The marriage and the role of the wife within the marriage, was of great importance then and today. Wives are called to be in submission. This is a rule for wives generally. There is good reason behind such a command. It is the Lord's will as set forth in creation, verse 23; Gen 2:18, 21 (woman, an helper) 3:16; 1 Tim 2:11-12. We will consider the manner of that submission in this study.
