"PICTURES OF CHRIST" At the beginning of the September 2015 school year, Rev Foster was asked to conduct two morning assembly meetings each week. He took as his theme - "Pictures of Christ" in the Bible. He has taken up that theme again this year. Read Joshua 12:7-13. We continue with our tenth picture of Christ, as seen in THE LIFE OF JOSHUA. Despite the setbacks that they encountered, Israel conquered much of the promised land, Joshua 12:7-13. However, much remained unconquered, 13:1-7. This presents us with a picture of the pilgrimage of the people of God on their way to Heaven. 1. Like Israel, we fail to enter into all the benefits of redemption because of unbelief and disobedience. It reminds us that we fail to achieve all that we should have for the Saviour in this life. There were those like Caleb who was very bold, 14:6-15. Many did not conquer their portion as he did, 18:2-3. Note Joshua's complaint about them being "slack"! The word means "weak, feeble, faint." This is what plagues the church still. Paul tells us how we should progress as Christians. "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus," Philippians 3:14. The Olympic games, despite their pagan origins and their present-day pagan practice of making 'gods' out of athletes, present to a picture of what it is to strive for victory. The athletes strive for an earthly, perishing crown. We are to press on for an eternal, glorious crown!
