As we start a new school year, I want to remind you of the theme of our studies. "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." When a machine has been lying up for a time, the farmer must oil it and loosen it up before he can use it again. As we take our study of the "Pictures of the Christ" we have to blow the dust off our memories and get our minds moving again. Reminding of truths is a central part of minister's task: 1 Tim 4:6; 2 Tim 2:14; Jude5.) I want to show you today, in this refresher course, why it is we might expect to find pictures of Christ in the Bible. 1. As the Bible is called the Word of God and the Lord Jesus is also called the Word of God, then we must expect to find that He is the supreme subject of it. Consider these verses. John 1:1, John 1:14, Rev 19:13. 2. Very specifically, the Lord Jesus tells us that He is too be found in the Scriptures. John 5:39, 46, Acts 8:35, 1 Peter 1:11, Luke 24:27, 44. 3. The very first time the presence of the Lord Jesus is mentioned, He is called the "Voice of the LORD God," Genesis 3:8. So as we come to the Bible we can expect to see and hear the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
