The 11th picture of Christ Gideon and his likeness to Christ. Gideon was divinely appointed. 1. As was the Saviour. "And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?" verse 14. Our Saviour was divinely appointed. He is the "Christ", the "anointed" of God. "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost," Luke 19:10. 2. Gideon was wonderfully fitted for the task. Verses 15-16. More wonderfully was our Saviour fitted. Acts 10:38. The Lord Jesus was gloriously helped by His Father and by the Holy Spirit in His work. Isaiah 11:2 - Seven-fold grace of the Holy Spirit, the fulness of grace. "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound," Isaiah 61:1. 3. From the first he was about "his father's business". "And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites," Judges 6:11. "And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" Luke 2:49, KJV. 4. His ministry started with a purging of sin. Verse 25-26. So the Saviour's ministry started and ended! John 2:13-17, Matt 21:12-13.
