The destroyer destroyedRev. Ivan Foster1 John 3:8 · Sunday ServiceSun Aug 31, 2003
The idea of the Saviour "destroying" anything runs contrary to the popular image that the modern preacher has attached to the Lord Jesus. Such an image is quite divorced from the Bible's revelation of the Son of God. The very first prophesy regarding Christ was given to Adam and Eve in the words of God to the devil after the temptation of Eve. "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel," Genesis 3:15. Christ came to crush the head of Satan, the old serpent. Our Saviour is a warrior-King. "The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name," Exodus 15:3. That is how the world will see Him when He returns, Rev 19:11. The verse before us presents the glorious truth that the destruction of the devil's works was the purpose of Christ's coming.
