(Preached in Kilskeery FPC morning meeting, 8th July, 2012)
Simeon's name means "harkening". An ideal name for a man such as he.
He was a man who having harkened unto the prophets, was "waiting for the consolation of Israel," Luke 2:25.
Waiting is a common disposition of the people of God.
A. It is our position in prayer and betokens our constant dependance upon the Lord for all things, Psalm 25:3, 145:15-16.
B. It denotes our expectation regarding the Saviour's return. 1 Thess 1:10. Job 19:26. Simeon had that same spirit of waiting. His eyes were upon the first advent of Christ.
