Since the beginning of the new school year in September 2015, Rev Foster has been speaking at two morning assembly meetings each week. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." Tenth Picture - Joshua Deut 7:1-8. The crossing of the Jordan is also a picture of us passing from death unto life at the new birth and the battles that ensue as we war against sin. They faced a wicked and depraved enemy. Deut 7:1-8. The destruction of the Canaanite nations by Israel was God's judgment for their iniquity. Deuteronomy 18:9-14. See also 20:16-18. God had patiently borne with their rebellion as he does with all sinners, John 3:36. The Gibeonites are an example of the craftiness of the enemy with whom we must fight. Joshua 9:3. "They did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up," Joshua 9:4. Willy means they were deceitful. The Gibeonites were deceivers. Such is our old natures, the flesh within us that must be deposed. "But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin," Hebrews 3:13. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Jeremiah 17:9. "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed," James 1:14. "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;" Ephesians 4:22.
