The perseverance of the saints "The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger," Job 17:9. (Preached at the evening meeting of Walsham Le Willows Evangelical Congregation Church) Job continues to defend himself against his critics. He has been accused of stubborn hypocrisy for not acknowledging the sins of which his friends believe he is guilty and for which he is suffering. In this verse Job is, I believe, saying that his refusal to comply with the demands of his friends stems not from stubbornness but from the working of grace within his heart. His tenacity springs from that inward working of the great principle he sets forth in our text. It was not stubbornness but persevering grace which causes him to hold on to his integrity. The verse has a universal application. It is true still.
