Since the beginning of the new school year in September 2015, Rev Foster has been speaking at two morning assembly meetings each week. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." Tenth Picture - Joshua Deut 7:1-8. Joshua was a warrior and he led Israel into many battles. Such is the life of the believer. (Read Rom 6:6-23.) The crossing of the Jordan is a picture of our crossing of the river of death and entering the heavenly Canaan. But it is also a picture of us passing from death unto life at the new birth and the battles that ensue as we war against sin in this world. They faced a wicked and depraved enemy. Deut 7:1-8. The destruction of the Canaanite nations by Israel was God's judgment for their iniquity. Deuteronomy 18:9-14. See also 20:16-18. God had patiently borne with their rebellion as he does with all sinners, John 3:36. They were not innocent, Romans 2:15. They knew what they were doing was wrong but they persisted in their sin. The Lord gave them many years to repent, Genesis 15:16. After some 500 years wrath fell upon them and Israel was the intruement of that wrath. So it will be in future times: "Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?" 1 Corinthians 6:2-3.
