Since the beginning of the new school year in September 2015, Rev Foster has been speaking at two morning assembly meetings each week. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." Tenth Picture - Joshua The crossing of the Jordan is a picture of us passing from death unto life at the new birth and the battles that ensue as we war against sin. The craftiness of the Gibeonites brought Israel into conflict with the Lord. Josh 9:14-15. When we take decisions of ourselves then we will always make mistakes. The princes did wrong and so too did Joshua in heeding the Gibeonites. Heed these warnings! "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths," Proverbs 3:5-6. We ought to follow Ezra's example. "Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance," Ezra 8:21. Listen to God's wonderful promise. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him," James 1:5. Let us follow David, 2 Sam 5:19. The folly had lasting effects. Josh 9:18, 10:5-6. Bitterly regret follows a failure to ask counsel of the Lord! "So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; and enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse," 1 Chron 10:13-14.
