Love for God manifested by a patient waiting for Christ's return "And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ," 2 Thessalonians 3:5. The church at Thessalonica was beset within and without by troubles. "For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews," 1 Thessalonians 2:14. "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us," 2 Thessalonians 3:6. See also verses 11-15. In the light of this trouble, which is common to God's people in every age, our text is instructive in that it shows us the answer to our troubles (2 Thess 1:6).
