The Deceiver Hiding WithinMan's heart examinedRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - PMJeremiah 17:9-10 · Sun May 21, 2006
The Holy Scriptures identify the heart as the seat of sin. "This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead," Eccles 9:3. "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies," Matthew 15:19. Temptation by the world and by the devil is but the enticing of the corruptions that reside within the heart of men. The desire for sin springs from the heart. "And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually," Genesis 6:5. Christ speaks of sin as the evil treasures of the heart. "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh," Luke 6:45. Sin and evil are counted by sinners as a treasure.
