Pictures of Christ - 15 - Elijah the prophet Reading Isaiah 10:24-33 we will see how that the Lord refers to former battle and the victories He gained over the devil and his agents. It is important to note that the devil never changes his objective or the method by which he seeks to accomplish that which is his ambition. Genesis 3:1 reveals how the devil desires to undermine the truth of God. He desires to overthrow the Lord and usurp His throne. Consequently, we can see in the past confrontations between the Lord and the devil's agents clear pictures of that final encounter when the Antichrist will endeavour to become 'God' and have men worship rather than worshipping the Lord. "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God," 2 Thess 2:4. We must learn to observe these references to past victories and how those victories will be repeated. There are some such references in our Bible reading and the events recorded there are linked to our study of Elijah for from the top of Mt Carmel Elijah could see the very area mentioned in Isaiah 10:24-33 and what happened there in former times provides us with a foreshadowing of scenes at the end of this age and the return of the Lord Jesus.
