IV. CONSTANT EXERTION
Wherefore we labour, 9 The word labour is linked with honour. He had an honourable ambition to please the Lord.
1. This ambition was fired by the knowledge of the judgment seat of Christ. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad, 10.
2. This judgment is not to be confused with the that of the Great White Throne. This is that referred to - Matt 25:31-46.
3. It will be a time of making manifest. Appear = make manifest.
4. It will be a time of loss and rewards. Some will suffer loss, 1 Cor 3:11-15. What are you building in your life?
VI. PERSUASION
He does not only think of himself in the light of eternity. He thinks of others.
1. A sense of judgment spurs us to warn sinners.
2. We seek to persuade. It means to win by words. It surely suggests the reasonableness of the gospel.
Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds, Acts 26:28-29.
