Stephen Fry's blasphemy refuted "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good," Psalm 53:1.
(Preached in Newtownabbey FP Church, Lord's Day evening, 14th May, 2017 by Rev Ivan Foster)
The headlines in a national newspaper ran thus: "Stephen Fry investigated by Irish police for alleged blasphemy". The offensive words were spoken by Fry while he was interviewed on RTE, the Irish state broadcaster. A complaint was made to the Irish police Under the Republic of Ireland's 'Defamation Act 2009', a person who publishes or utters blasphemous material "shall be guilty of an offence".It has already been reported in the press that a court case will not happen! Fry was asked what he would say to God if he had a chance. He replied: "How dare you create a world in which there is such misery." "It's not our fault? It's not right. It's utterly, utterly evil. Why should I respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid god who creates a world which is so full of injustice and pain?" Fry said if he met the Greek gods he would accept them quicker because, "they didn't present themselves as being all seeing, all wise, all beneficent". "Because the god who created this universe, if it was created by God, is quite clearly a maniac, an utter maniac, totally selfish. We have to spend our lives on our knees thanking him. What kind of god would do that?" A Christian may be inclined to ignore the ravings of such an obvious fool. However, his words have to be refuted for the sake of the honour of God, and it must be emphasised, Fry's outrageous charges against the Lord CAN be refuted.
