The Battle for Blessing pt 2.Cost of blessingRev. Ivan Foster · Sunday - AMGenesis 32:26 · Sun Apr 3, 2005
Wrestling with God is not a common concept of prayer today, yet it is the only concept set forth in the Bible. Jacob sought God's blessing but before it could be granted God had to lay hold on him and alter him further by His grace. In this second part of our study, we will look at Jacob's determination to obtain God's blessing. 1. It was born of faith in the promise of God. Only faith born of the promise of God could be so bold in the presence of God. 2. It was born of his great sense of the need of God's blessing. He felt he faced utter destruction. Esau's last words, 27:41-42. Same words as Gen 4:8--Cain. 3. It was born of a sense of responsibility for others. His family's wellbeing rest upon his obtaining the blessing he sought. How fervent and faithful in prayer we ought to be if only for our families! 4. In his determination, he showed great familiarity. There is a familiarity that is born of pride and it is blasphemous. There is a familiarity born of faith and love and it is endearing to God. 5. In his determination, he showed great humility. There is a boldness that is shameless. Luke 11:8-9. Jacob was shameless in his acknowledgement of his need and poverty.
