Christian Companionship, Pt 2 (Preached by Rev Ivan Foster at Kilskeery YPF, Friday 15th April, 2016) "I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts," Ps 119:63. The title of this section of the psalm is 'Cheth.' This Hebrew letter depicts a 'fence'. The believer lives within a fence. Job 1:8-10. This section of Psalm 119 begins with a strong affirmation of fidelity to God. In the verse 63 the Psalmist shows his allegiance to God in the companions he chooses. What does your companionship tell of your spirituality? Consider firstly, I. THE PSALMIST'S ASSOCIATES "Them that fear thee" & "Them that keep thy precepts" 1. Joseph - Genesis 39:9, Abraham - Genesis 20:11. Such fear will: A. Make us sincere. Col. 3:22 B. Make us truly happy. Psalm 112:1, Acts 9:31. C. Make us civil and considerate. Lev 19:9-10, 13-14, 18. II. THE NATURE OF THIS ASSOCIATION "I am a companion of all them ....." The word 'companion' means 'knit together' or 'united'. 1. Profess the same faith. 2. Assemble together for public worship. 3. Promote the good of our companion. 4. Identify with them in their sufferings. III. A RIGHT SPIRIT WILL DETER UNGODLY COMPANIONSHIP The believer cannot tolerate sinful companion. Ps 139:21.
