Peaceableness is a most precious thing. God created a peaceful world. It is sin that has brought war. God's people are repeatedly urged to follow the path of peace. "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." Matthew 5:9. This refers to a seeking to advance the peace of reconciliation with God through the gospel of Christ. However, it must be noted that the believer is not a disciple of the "peace at any price" movement! "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men," Romans 12:18. It has been the weapon of evil men to promote evil and overthrow true peace (2 Sam 3:27, 20:9). In these verses we have a picture of how an apparently peaceful act can promote evil. They are but pictures of an evil which will yet break forth upon this world.
