"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it," Matthew 7:13-14. The use of the words "many" and "few" underscore the gross error embraced by many men on the general subject of true religion. Despite the fact that the vast bulk of mankind lives in ignorance and utter neglect of God and His Word, it is blithely believed by the world that few will be lost but the great majority of men will find mercy at the last and be welcomed into the realms of glory. Here we have one of the plainest statements by the Lord in which He says the very opposite of what most believe.
