Closing considerations. Before we leave the book of Ruth I want us to notice the foreshadowing of future events that are presented to us in the book. I believe we can see here pictures of: 1. Fall of Israel. 2. Gathering of the Gentiles. 3. The restoration of the Jews. 4. The reign of Christ on this earth. 3. The restoration of the Jews foreshadowed A. Naomi, like Israel, return to Israel in darkness and shame. 1:19-22. She was in bitterness because of her calamities. She was empty and afflicted, 21. When Naomi came back to Israel she was in a poor way. So it will be with Israel, Ezekiel 36:24-27, 37:11-14. B. It is only after returning that Naomi was reacquainted her kinsman redeemer. 2:1, 19-20. So it will be with Israel. Note, Boaz knew of Ruth and Naomi even though they were unaware of him, 11-12. Presently Bethlehem is under the heel of the enemy but it will not always be so. As Joseph made himself known unto his estranged brethren on their second visit to Egypt (Genesis 43), so on Christ's second visit to this world He will make Himself known to His ancient people who have rejected Him in the past. C. As Noami was called back to Israel at the time of barley harvest, even so, there is coming a day of restoration of Israel once more when the present famine will end. Read Amos 8:11-12. D. Renewed fellowship with Boaz brought Naomi great blessing and restoration. "And he (Obed) shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age," Ruth 4:15. Joel 3:1-2, 20. Naomi looked after the child, she became as a young mother again!
