The things which will announce, accompany and follow after the return of Christ No 3. "Why the Saviour warned of deception in the last days" Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you, Matthew 24:4. "And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Matthew 24:3. It is to be noticed that the Saviour answered the questions of His disciples on this subject and that He began His answers by issuing a warning. That indicates the link between the subject of His return and deceiving of believers and the importance of this matter of deception. The substance of the warning then is deception! The word deceive means to lead astray. Many have been led astray by accepting false teaching on the subject of the Lord's return. The Saviour does not say: "Do not study this subject. Leave it alone." No, He says be careful not to believe those whose predictions are not based upon His Word. See verse 23-26; 2 Thess 2:3.
