Since the beginning of the new school year in September 2015, Rev Foster has been asked to speak at two morning assembly meetings each week. His theme for 2015-16 is DV, "Pictures of Christ in the Bible." Fifth Picture of Christ Genesis 22:1-14 This is our final study in this particular portion of God's Word. What is not seen by the natural eye in this story is the confidence of Abraham that God would keep His promise and somehow Isaac would yet live. "By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure," Hebrews 11:17-19. Here is how faith works. God had promised Abraham that many descendants would spring up from his son Isaac therefore, even if he saw him die on the altar, God would keep His promise and even raise up Isaac from the dead in order that he might father a great people. No matter how impossible it may appear to us, God will keep His promises. One last thing - the ram caught by its horns - the sinner's substitute in the place of death. "And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son," Genesis 22:13. Please note the words "looked", "took" and "offered". These are the steps that all sinners must take if they are to make Christ their saviour. We must see Him, make Him ours and place our hand on His head and claim Him as our sacrifice.
