Some ten years before this epistle was written by Jude the apostle, Paul said to the elders at Ephesus: "I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them," Acts 20:28-30. Paul warned of events which would soon happen. Jude was warning of that which had happened. Within 30 -35 years of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, the various gatherings of believers had been infiltrated by the devil's agents. Their task was to destroy the witness of the gospel by spreading false doctrine from within the body of professing Christians. God's answer to the devil's attack is seen in the words of Paul and Jude. God's servants must act as watchmen and warn the people of God about the attacks of evil men.
