The Lord Jesus as a young boy, Pt 2KICS Studies - Children in the Gospels who met the Lord Jesus · part 2 of 15Rev. Ivan Foster · YouthLuke 2:52 · Tue Sep 10, 2024

1. While I want to show you that the Lord Jesus was One Who had the common experiences of a child, He was, however, wonderfully unique.

The Saviour had a divine as well as a human nature. We are told that He “was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth,” John 1:14. Furthermore, He “did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth,” 1 Peter 2:22, and “in him is no sin,” 1 John 3:5.

Shorter Catechism says: “The only Redeemer of Gods elect is the Lord Jesus Christ1, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was, and continueth to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, for ever.

We must treat Him and His name with great reverence!

2. Many boys and girls think that the things of God are really only for adults, the grown-up people.

That is a very wrong notion and I want to show you this is in this series of studies.

We will start, however, with a brief consideration of the Lord Jesus as a boy. I want you to understand that He knows exactly what it is you are experiencing as a young person. “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man,” Luke 2:52. Note - “ Jesus increased in . . . stature”. He grew taller each year!

Though, of course, we must ever remember He did no sin!

3. The Lord Jesus had a family life just like you.

“Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?” Matthew 13:55-56. They, of course, did NOT share the Saviour’s miraculous birth for He was born of the wonderful workings of the Holy Spirit. He was in truth, the Son of God. He was God manifested in human flesh.

But Mary had other children after the Saviour was born. They were, in truth, his half brothers. They are named for us. James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas. They were all engaged in God’s work later on, (Acts 1:14) which was good for at first they did not believe that the Lord Jesus was the Christ. “For neither did his brethren believe in him,” John 7:5.
