“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,” Hebrews 11:24.
MOSES’ GREAT DECISION
We come to a key time in Moses life.
I. THE GREATNESS OF HIS DECISION
“Refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.”
1. It was a costly decision. He gave up all that Egypt offered to him as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
2. It was a controversial decision. He was identifying with the most despised people in Egypt!
3. It was a crucial decision. What wonderful consequences flowed from that decision which has impacted upon all the world, not just the people of Israel. None of us know what may flow from our conversion!
II. THE REASON FOR HIS DECISION.
1. His heart was changed. “By faith Moses”. Faith was born in him. “It came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel,” Acts 7:23.
2. He came to believe God’s revelation of Himself and His purpose for Israel and the place Moses had in that plan. He was given a new heart. This is true conversion. “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh,” Ezekiel 36:26. He was was made to realise that he was not an Egyptian but belonged to the people of God. Up to that time he considered himself an Egyptian in his heart.
3. Learn, this is a picture of what will happen to Israel just before the ‘final exodus’ at the return of Christ. Ezekiel 36:23-38, Hebrews 10:16-17.
III. THE TIME OF HIS DECISION.
“When he was full forty years old,” Acts 7:23.
1. He was thus ‘come to years’. The phrase means ‘when he was great’. This helps us to see the true significance of Moses’ decision. He made it when he was in the position to enjoy all the splendours of Egypt! There is a similarity to that time when the devil said to Christ: “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me,” Matthew 4:8-9.
2. True faith entails the utter forsaking of all the world offers you. Of course, what the world offers is a sham, a fraud, a deceit! “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36. No gain whatever!
3. Boys and girls, there is no time when the world appears more appealing than when the Lord begins to awaken us to our need of salvation. The devil seeks to hinder that by ‘magnifying’ and ‘exaggerating’ the delights if the world. Remember, the pleasures of sin only last for a season, verse 25.
