“And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost,” Luke 23:46.
We will take up where we left off yesterday and say:
1. To die in such contented confidence and surrendered manner, we must have lived so!
“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more,” 1 Thessalonians 4:1.
That is how the Saviour lived and thus He was able so to die.
Boy. Luke 2:49
Preacher. John 4:34, 9:4, 17:4
Miracle worker. John 11:3-6.
We are called as Christians to such a surrendered life. Romans 12:1-2.
2. The Lord Jesus shows how we should die.
These words were uttered as a cry. He did not need a loud cry to be heard by His Father. He was giving us a witness of how to die.
* The Lord was aware of the approach of death and He was ready, John 13:1. I believe that those who live close to the Lord do know of the approach of death. Genesis 47:29, 48:21, 50:24; 2 Tim 4:6.
* Notice the Saviour’s awareness of His Father’s presence. So it is with us who believe. “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints,” Psalm 116:15.
* Death holds no fear for the true believer. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me,” Psalm 23:4.
Children, learn that as it was with the Lord Jesus so it will be with ALL CHRISTIANS — the Father will be waiting for us with a wonderful, loving welcome!
