The cry of thirst, Pt 1KICS Studies - Seven Sayings of the Saviour on the Cross · part 15 of 23Rev. Ivan FosterMon Feb 27, 2023 · Youth

“After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst,” John 19:28.

This fifth cry of the Saviour consists of only two words in our Bible but in the original Greek text it is only one word. Here is the transliteration of the Greek word ‘dip-sah’-o’.

We must not ignore even the smallest word in the Bible for “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,” 2 Timothy 3:16. Matthew 5:18.

This cry signals the final stages of the Saviour’s sufferings. As our verse says, “all things were now accomplished.” Samson thirsted after his battle with the Philistines at Levi when he killed 1000 with the “jawbone of an ass,” Judges 15:14-18.

This cry by the Saviour indicates:

THE SAVIOUR’S DEATH WAS PRE-DETERMINED

It says: “Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled”.  Please learn this truth, girls and boys.

1.The Lord Jesus lived and died according to the Scriptures. Matt 2:5-6; Mark 9:12; 1 Cor 15:3-4; Acts 2:23, 3:17-18.

2. Calvary was planned in eternity and revealed throughout time to men as the only way of salvation. Luke 24:33-37, 19:43. The ‘lamb’ as the means of salvation was taught in the Garden of Eden, Gen 3:15, 3:4. Christ was “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world,” Rev 13:8. Slain in the plan of God and fulfilled at Calvary, preached today in the gospel.

3. For God to plan means that the plan will be fulfilled. “And we know that all things work together for good, Rom 8:28-30. We can say with Solomon: “Blessed be the LORD, . . .there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant,”1 Kings 8:56.

Never forget or doubt that truth, boys and girls.
