“The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power,” Psalm 110:2-3.
We resume our study where left off on Tuesday 13th September. After this I hope to go to the beginning of the Psalms and consider, at least some, of the references to the last days found in them.
Please note:—
1. The first group to feel the impact of Christ’s power when He returns. His ‘enemies’. 2 Thess 2:8, Revelation 6:12-17. I say ‘first’ though there is a ‘concurrency’ about many of the events of that wonderful day. However, here this dealing with the ‘enemy’ is mentioned first
2. The second group to feel His power. “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power.”
* This will likely begin with the overthrow of His enemies. At the end of this age, the Jewish people will be shown to be God’s people. Jeremiah 32:37-41.
* At this moment they are far from the Lord. They rejected Him 2000 years ago and still, as a nation, reject Him. This is the time spoken of in Hosea 3:4. “For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim.” But this time of desolation will end at the time spoken of in our text. At Christ’s return the Jewish people will be made ‘willing’ — obedient and submissive.
* They are anything but willing now. It is a recognised fact that the most difficult person to speak to regarding Christ is the unconverted Jew! 2000 years ago as a nation they turned their back on Him. “But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar,” John 19:15.
* They will experience what every unconverted sinner MUST experience if they are to be saved. This word ‘willing’ is linked with the giving a freewill offering, Ps 119:108. The experience of the Ephesians show us this change, 4:17-21. They shall be willing to repent and believe and obey the gospel. See Zechariah 12:10. This is the day of ‘willingness’.
