An age-old battle and its outcome, Pt 7KICS Studies - Some of my Favorite Psalms · part 11 of 69Rev. Ivan Foster · YouthPsalm 2:7-9 · Thu Feb 10, 2022

This last point of the second section, which we didn’t get to on Tuesday past, will serve as an introduction to the next section of the psalm, vvs 7-9.

Christ is established in holiness. Christ’s cause is a holy cause. It is to the HOLY HILL that God’s Word leads us. “O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles,” Ps 43:3.

When we gather together to Him remember — “ . . . put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground,” Ex 3:5.  Also see Exodus 15:11-13. Let us heed the call to holiness, boys and girls. “Holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord,” Hebs 12:14. “Be ye holy; for I am holy,” I Pet 1:16.

New we come to verses 7-9.

SECTION THREE DEALS WITH THE RE-AFFIRMATION OF CHRIST’S SOVEREIGNTY

We have the Lord Jesus Christ speaking in these verses. He declares the basis of His sovereignty, verses 7-8, and the outcome of His exercising that authority, verse 9. The basis of the Saviour’s kingdom is His Father’s word.

The objective of rebellious man is in direct opposition to the eternal purpose of God. God would set up His Son. Rebellious man would cast Him down.

We shall take the three verses and look at each one separately.

I. THE BASIS OF CHRIST’S SOVEREIGNTY

It is but proper that Christ, the Prophet of His people, explain the basis upon which His kingdom is built.

1. It is based upon the eternal degree of God. “I will declare the decree.”  The word means “law or statute”. It was an undertaking given to Christ by His Father. All power is God’s. God is a covenant forming and keeping God. It is on that basis He deals with His Son and with us. His word to us is one great promise. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust,” 2 Peter 1:4.

So boys and girls, just as the Lord Jesus may be absolutely sure that He will reign and rule over this world because His Father has promised that it will be so, likewise we are sure of heaven if we have believed God’s gospel promise. That promise is: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,” Romans 10:13.

Have you called on the Lord for salvation? If you have then you can be ABSOLUTELY  sure of being in heaven.
