“And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this [man] this wisdom, and [these] mighty works?”  Matthew 13:54

THEIR UNBELIEF ROBBED THEM OF GOD’S BLESSING

“And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief,”   verse 58.

Here is the terrible price of unbelief!

1. Their unbelief was a marvel to Christ.  “And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them]. And he marvelled because of their unbelief,” Mark 6:5-6. The unbelief of those who hear the gospel is a marvel to God. He finds it inexplicable! 

2. They robbed themselves of limitless blessings. Who can value what these foolish people cast away! So it is with all who turn their back on the Lord and His message.

3. They could blame no one else for their loss. ‘Their unbelief’. Not the devil but themselves alone were to blame for the misery they brought upon themselves!

4. Unbelief will stay the hand of mercy and kindness.  Do you understand what you are doing when you reject the gospel?

5. Amidst all the unbelief, there were a few who had faith and benefitted from Christ’s mercy.  “He laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them],” Mark 6:5. Across the world, throughout the ages, there have been a few who believed and enjoyed God’s blessing as a result.  “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved?” Luke 13:23. The answer is YES and the reason is simple. 

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it,” Matthew 7:13-14.

Have you obeyed the Saviour’s call and entered  by the narrow gate unto the path that leads to heaven or are you on the crowded road that leads to eternal destruction?
