“By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace,” Hebs 11:31.
1. Her actions brought salvation to her whole household.
“But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her,” Joshua 6:2. Faithful obedience does result in this. The first to see our faith ought to be our family. Andrew: John 1:36-42; Jailer: Acts 16:30-34.
Remember the words of the Saviour to the man of Gadara. “Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee,” Mark 5:19. Was not the Prodigal another example? “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,” Luke 15:18.
2. It is an express command of God that children be taught to follow their parents to faith in Christ.
Deuteronomy 6:6-9; Psalm 78:1-8; Ephesians 6:4.
3. Best of all, this woman became part of the royal line from which our Lord Jesus came!
“And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; and Jesse begat David the king . . . . And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ,” Matthew 1:5, 16. When you are saved you become part of the Saviour’s family. “Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother,” Matthew 12:47-50. What a glorious privilege! A member of the Royal Family of Heaven!
